Landstar Development steps up to sponsor Kidney March finale

Paying it forward for family & community

George Mylonas, President of Calgary’s Landstar Development Corporation, wanted to do more than participate in Kidney March again this year. He decided to ‘kick it up a notch’ by sponsoring Closing Ceremonies – Kidney March’s marquee event for marchers and their families.

Mylonas became the driving force behind “Team Christina” last year when one of his relatives, Voula Douvis-Tzigalanis, whose daughter has kidney disease, had foot surgery and was unable to participate as she had in the past. “I thought it was a shame our family couldn’t participate in something that meant so much to her, and to our whole family,” he says. “Plus it sounded like fun, so I said, ‘Let’s do it.’”

Last year Mylonas surprised himself by surpassing his fundraising goal of $40,000 by 200%. (He was actually finalizing pledges as he was marching.) This year he’s aiming even higher. He insists it doesn’t matter how much money anyone gives, whether it’s $1 or $10,000, the feeling of doing something good to help your neighbour, and your community, is the same. FESTIVAL TENT, CANADA OLYMPIC PARK

Join us for a spectacular grand finale on day 3 with friends and family!
Cheer on the Marchers and Crew as they come down COP hill after completing a bold 100 km journey in support of those living with kidney disease. We look forward to having you celebrate with us!

How to get there and where to park:
Please enter off Trans Canada Highway 1 (16th Avenue SW), follow the road to COP and travel to the west, looping up to the Festival Parking lot behind Canada’s Hall of Fame. See Map Below.  The event will take place in the Festival Tent and along the road in front of the COP hill road toll gates. Please do not drive to the top of COP hill as you will not be able to park or visit your loved ones there. Also, the COP hill road will be closed to any unauthorized vehicles for safety.

Kidney March welcomes Mattamy Homes to the Kidney March family

Mattamy sponsorship transforms showers into a spa-like retreat

When Mattamy Homes was considering one more charitable opportunity in Calgary, Kidney March was just the fit the company was looking for.

Don Barrineau, President of Mattamy Homes’ Calgary division, notes Mattamy has always had a deep interest in supporting the communities it does business in, particularly in the areas of health and wellness. “It starts at the top with President Peter Gilgan and spreads throughout the company. Here in Calgary, we want to focus our support on a couple of projects with big impact – projects where we can actually see the difference we are making, and that our people can get involved in,” he says.

Established in 1978, Mattamy Homes is North America’s largest privately owned home builder. The company has built 90,000 homes in neighbourhoods across Ontario and Alberta.

“We are proud of the high quality people who work here – people who already have care and concern for their community hardwired in them,” Barrineau says. “And since high quality, integrity, humility, and gratitude is also the culture we want to build, giving back becomes a self-perpetuating thing that just keeps building on itself.”
